I finally got around to Life of Pi by Yann Martel. Plagiarism or not - it is clever, funny and worthy of reading in any situation.
Since I was raised in a very Christian environment, I found the passages were where Christianity is discussed from young Pi's point of view very interesting and sometimes extremely funny - for example when he enters a church for the first time he describes what he sees as pictures of human sacrifices, fat babies with tiny wings, a charismatic bird, etc.
But maybe the most hilarious is when Pi, who is tired of people who misunderstand his name, answers a pizza delivery man's request for his name using the most loaded of all phrases "I am who I am".
The post(?)-colonial definition that Pi offers on Christianity vs Islam should also be of interest. Christianity is famous for having few gods and great schools. Islam has even fewer gods but not any special reputation when it comes to schooling.
